WHY CHOOSE CORE MATHS?
This course is for anyone who wants to
study Mathematics in real world situations
and is recommended for students wishing
to study subjects at A level and/or degree
level with Mathematical content such as
Psychology, Biology, Economics, Business
Studies, Geography and Computer Science
for example. You will learn about Mathematics
in Finance as well as how to represent and
analyse situations using Mathematics and
develop problem solving skills.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
Taught over 1 year, there are two written
calculator exams of 90 minutes each at the
end of the course. The qualification has the
same UCAS tariff points as an AS-Level.

Grade 4 in GCSE Maths
Core Maths is an interesting subject
where you learn about Maths and
the impact it has on the outside world.
Core Maths also helps you gain a deeper
understanding of material covered in
GCSE Maths. Oliver
WHY CHOOSE USE OF ENGLISH?
This is a programme which supports the
essential written elements which other courses
of study require. Throughout the year students
will develop their academic writing skills for
transference to other chosen courses and
practise writing and presenting appropriately
for a range of relevant work-based situations.
This is achieved through engagement with
a range of topical issues that span social,
ethical and thematic ideas. Students will
consider what reliable research looks like,
finetune their referencing skills and improve
the clarity and coherence of their written and
verbal communication.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT?
Lessons include a combination of teacher-led
and independent work exploring a range of
topical issues. Students have a regular ‘workin progress session’ where they are asked to
bring extended pieces of writing from their
studied courses for critique and development.
Use of English has really helped me
with my essay writing in History.
My Use of English teacher has been able
to combine my knowledge of History
with her knowledge of what examiners
will be looking for within my essays.
This has really improved the clarity and
sophistication of my academic writing.
