WHY CHOOSE MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES?
An A Level language uniquely complements
any other subject combination. In our
competitive global society, language skills
give you a vital advantage over other potential
employees and can increase your earning
potential by up to 20%. The A Level language
courses build upon your GCSE knowledge your confidence and skills in reading, listening,
writing and speaking will rapidly improve and
you’ll find yourself able to understand the
language in real contexts. Your grammar and
understanding of how the language ‘works’
will progress significantly and you will learn
how to understand, discuss and respond to a
wide variety of interesting topical issues and
questions. As your skills grow, so will your love
of the language and of the culture and lifestyles
of those who speak that language.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
You will be assessed with a listening and
reading paper, a writing paper and a speaking
test. There will be translations both into and out
of the target language, and you will study one
book and one film
AS Level in Spanish: Students who have
achieved an average point score of 7 or
above at GCSE (and meet the subject entry
requirements below) may choose an AS level
language as their additional strand subject,
following a discussion with the Head of Sixth
Form. This AS level would be taught in the A
level class and is worth half of an A level.
WHY CHOOSE SPORT?
This qualification will enable you to develop
the essential skills and knowledge for starting a
career in the sports sector, with a specific focus
on sports performance and excellence. The
course covers units of work such as ‘Anatomy
& Physiology’, ‘Fitness Training & Programming
for Sport’, ‘Skill Acquisition’, ‘Fitness Testing for
Sport & Exercise’ and ‘Practical Sport.’
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
One external exam, three externally assessed
units and six internally assessed units.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 5 in GCSE PE (a Grade 6 is
recommended)
l If you have not studied PE at GCSE you may
be accepted onto the course at the discretion
of the subject leader.

BTEC Sport has allowed me to
develop my knowledge and
understanding of physiology and anatomy
to go with specified training programmes
which I have applied to daily life. I look
forward to taking on the leadership roles
as I will be learning another skill to help
me with my future and my confidence. Eira

Grade 6 in GCSE Spanish
Spanish A Level is a really interesting
and sophisticated subject. Through
exploring many varied topics and studying
a book and film, we are pushed into
developing strong communication skills,
at the same time as building a deeper
understanding of the language, culture and
society in Spanish speaking countries. Also
studying a language really opens up a
wide range of global career opportunities.
