Development
Personal Development is a compulsory
curriculum subject through which pupils
develop the knowledge, skills and attributes
they need to keep themselves healthy, safe
and prepared for life and work. Students will
have fortnightly timetabled lessons at key
stage 5. Topics explored will ensure students
continue to learn about issues with real-life
relevance to them, at a crucial transition point
in their lives.
Topics explored include:
• Self concept
• Healthy lifestyles including Mental health
and emotional wellbeing
• Managing risk and personal safety, including
Media literacy and digital resilience
• Sexual health
• Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco
• Relationship values, Forming and
maintaining respectful relationships
including consent, contraception and
parenthood
• Discrimination and equality including rights
and responsibilities.
• Work related learning such as Choices
and pathways, Employment rights and
responsibilities and financial choices
Level 2 Pathway
At The Weald we offer a Level 2 Pathway for
those students who need a bridging course
between GCSE and A Level or other post-16
study. This course may be offered to students
who have not met the minimum requirements
to study A Level courses and who need to
retake Maths and/or English GCSE. Our Level
2 pathway is comprised of courses in both
Business and Travel & Tourism, along with
GCSE resits in Maths and/or English Language.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
This pathway will be considered for students
who achieve an Average GCSE point score of
3 or more across a minimum of 5 subjects, and
also for those who need to resit both Maths
and English Language GCSE.
