WHY CHOOSE SPORT?
This qualification will enable you to develop
the essential skills and knowledge for starting a
career in the sports sector, with a specific focus
on sports performance and excellence. The
course covers units of work such as ‘Anatomy
& Physiology’, ‘Fitness Training & Programming
for Sport’, ‘Skill Acquisition’, ‘Fitness Testing for
Sport & Exercise’ and ‘Practical Sport.’
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
One external exam, three externally assessed
units and six internally assessed units.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 5 in GCSE PE (a Grade 6 is
recommended)
• If you have not studied PE at GCSE you may
be accepted onto the course at the discretion
of the subject leader.
BTEC Sport has allowed me to
develop my knowledge and
understanding of physiology and anatomy
to go with specified training programmes
which I have applied to daily life. I look
forward to taking on the leadership roles
as I will be learning another skill to help
me with my future and my confidence. Eira
WHY CHOOSE TEXTILES?
This exciting practical course is ideal for anyone
who enjoys experimenting with a wide range
of materials to develop creative and artistic
skills. You will be taught how to use specialist
techniques in a well-equipped department
to produce highly individual and expressive
pieces of fine art textiles. You will study the
work of a range of contemporary textile artists.
This course celebrates the colours, structures
and textures that are so vital to the tactile
nature of textiles. It would be suitable for
anyone who enjoys exploring the visual world
around them, considering conceptual ideas and
then communicating this through the endless
possibilities of creative textile work.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
Students will begin the course by completing a
project introducing a range of practical skills.
They will then develop a personally themed
unit of work supported by an extended essay
which they will submit for their coursework unit
worth 60% of the A Level grade. Students then
complete a practical exam unit, worth 40% of
the A level grade.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
There are no specific entry requirements.
A GCSE in Art or Textiles would be an
advantage but is not essential.
Textiles is a great time and space
to channel ideas through creativity
while being a break from other essayheavy subjects. It feels like a passion
rather than a qualification which is
refreshing! Olivia
