WHY CHOOSE MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES?
An A Level language uniquely complements
any other subject combination. In our
competitive global society, language skills
give you a vital advantage over other potential
employees and can increase your earning
potential by up to 20%. The A Level language
courses build upon your GCSE knowledge your confidence and skills in reading, listening,
writing and speaking will rapidly improve and
you’ll find yourself able to understand the
language in real contexts. Your grammar and
understanding of how the language ‘works’
will progress significantly and you will learn
how to understand, discuss and respond to a
wide variety of interesting topical issues and
questions. As your skills grow, so will your love
of the language and of the culture and lifestyles
of those who speak that language.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
You will be assessed with a listening and
reading paper, a writing test and a speaking
test. There will be translations both into and out
of the target language, and you will study one
book and one film

• GCSE Grade 6 in German

WHY CHOOSE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE?
You will develop knowledge, understanding
and skills that can prepare you for progression
to university or apprenticeship in Health
and Social Care Management, Social Work,
Nursing, Midwifery, Early Years, Occupational
Therapy and Paramedic Science. As well as
academic studies there is strong emphasis on
the application of skills and knowledge. This
vocational course attracts UCAS points.
HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT AND ASSESSED?
It covers equality, diversity and rights, health
and safety, anatomy and physiology, personcentred approaches, mental health, sexual
health and nutrition. The qualification is
equivalent to one A-level. The coursework
element is 60 % and there are two exams that
make up 40% of the qualification. One exam will
be taken in Y12 and the other in Y13.
SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• GCSE Grade 4 English Language – the
coursework demands considerable literacy
skills that can support extended writing.
There is no requirement to have studied Health
and Social Care previously.
I love and am absolutely passionate
about Health and Social Care. It
teaches us skills that are applicable in
any environment. It is challenging and
demanding and needs dedication. But the
end result is the best feeling in the world!
