COURSE LEVELS
EXPLAINED
At Varndean Sixth Form College, we offer three levels of study:
Advanced Level (Level 3)
Foundation Level (Level 2)

Which level you follow is dependent upon your
predicted entry qualifications and whether you
meet the entry requirements at enrolment.
ADVANCED LEVEL
A two-year Advanced Level Programme typically
consisting of three subjects. This could be three
A Levels, vocational courses, or a combination of
A Levels and vocational courses.
Alternatively, you could study the popular
International Baccalaureate Diploma which is an
alternative to A Levels and recognised by top
universities in the UK and worldwide.
We also offer the Education & Early Years T
Level, which is a full-time stand-alone course.
FOUNDATION LEVEL
A one-year Foundation Level Programme
can be offered to those students who do not
meet the entry requirements of an Advanced
Programme. This will comprise of a minimum of
three courses, which could be a mix of GCSEs
and Level 2 vocational courses, and will facilitate
progression onto an Advanced Programme.
A one-year Gateway Programme for students
who have recently relocated to the UK and for
whom English is a second language. Students
will need to undertake an ESOL assessment to
determine their suitability.
