Higher Level students will also study:
l Aesthetics. This theme asks questions like what is art? What is an artist? Is
there a special artistic impulse? Should art have a message? Should art be
useful? Many philosophers put the study of art at the very centre of their
philosophy. This theme will inspire and help students to re昀氀ect on other
aspects of the course.
l “Philosophy and contemporary issues” - An in-depth look at how to do
philosophy well. How can philosophy help with pressing issues regarding the
environment and technology?

We have a great relationship with philosophy
departments at Sussex and Brighton Universities;
faculty members are often invited in to talk at our
student led Philosophy Society.
English Literature, Sciences, PPE, Law, Civil Service,
International Relations, Arts, Humanities, any course
or profession that requires you to think well
One of my favourite subjects was Philosophy
because it encouraged independent and critical
thought, as you are expected to carefully analyse
each problem and come to your own conclusion
instead of accepting a predetermined answer. I also
found it fascinating
because it dealt with some
of the most fundamental
problems of existence,
such as what it means to
be conscious and how we
can be ethical people.”
