Interested in German?
In Higher Level German you will study literary works. Bernhard Schlink’s
Der Vorleser and Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s Der Besuch der alten Dame have
previously been studied, which have enabled students to explore Germany’s
history and post-war generations as well as global issues and questions of
morality. You will delve into the social and historical contexts of literature and
how these arise from both a past- and contemporary Germany.
Both Standard- and Higher Level will encounter a range of authentic
textual and audio-visual resources across a range of topics to ensure you
are immersed in the German language. Contemporary topics such as the
environment and German politics post-1990 are analysed, alongside thoughtprovoking topics such as technology and its role in our world both today and
in the future. Alongside this you are encouraged to keep up to date with the
current a昀昀airs of the German-speaking world and to take a genuine interest in
the role of German-speaking countries in today’s world.
